Monthly Themes-There's a lot happening in kindergarten! Each month we explore new themes using good quality literature as our jumping off point. Below are just a few of the themes we are working on. this year!
Important Faces In Our Classroom
Meet Ms. Kyla, a tutor from the Albany College of Pharmacy. She comes in about three hours a week to work with students who need extra help in math. She's great with our students and we are so lucky to have her.
Mr. Bill is a well known storyteller and musician who volunteers his time in our classroom. He usually comes once a week in the morning for 45 minutes. He reads stories with us, sings with us, and helps us focus on many important common core reading standards,
Ms. Rosenberger is a literacy volunteer from the Jewish Community Center. She comes in once a week to work with individual students on literacy skills.
Professor Baldwin's Class
St. Rose students from Professor Baldwin's class come in once a week for 45 minutes to work with individual students on literacy skills including sight words, phonics and phonemic awareness, concepts of print, and comprehension. We are so lucky to have these future teachers working with us!
Professor Schillinger's Class
A few graduate students from Professor Schillinger's St. Rose class come in once a week for an hour to work with students in small groups on writing and literacy skills. The students look forward to these visits every week!
Miss Sue is retired from the DEC. She helps bring nature and science into our classroom. When Miss Sue is around we often end up at the Friendship Garden across the street. We work together to create lessons that combine literacy and math with nature!
